The Tatoi Estates
Promises are made to be kept, and we had promised a good friend to hit some interesting trails with mountain bikes within this week. So, just before the week ended, the arrangement took place. At 11:00 hours the tires started rolling up from the southern edge of the Tatoi Recreation Area, on the foot of Mt. Parnitha.
2 hours, 15 km and 1.5 liters of water later, we returned to the car wrecked but full of satisfaction and filled from fresh mountain air.
What we experienced in the meantime is revealed in the above snapshots: the remainders of the old royal family estate, mystic gardens, an abandoned swimming pool, old garages, jungle-like vegetation and some mean trails. Imagine the villa of the old woman in “Great Expectations” movie and multiply its surrounding gardens by 100. All these available for free, an hour away from the center of Athens.-
